October 26 – 4:30 pm – Hood Museum Reception and Lecture - Two Exhibits:
Frank Stella: Irregular Polygons - Frank Stella has a long history with Dartmouth College, as Artist-in-Residence. He made what became known as the Dartmouth series. He also made another series, the Irregular Polygons, named after towns in New Hampshire. This series involves exploded sculptural geometries, first on a flat surface, but later, on relief sculptural paintings that project off the wall several feet. This exhibition explores ideas about space and illusion that Stella has made his own artistic path.
Native American Ledger Drawings - This collection is the largest, most diverse of its type in private hands. Curated by Joe Horse Capture, this exhibition features drawings depicting the struggle for cultural survival and the Native adaptation to an imposed non-Native lifestyle in the profound upheaval among the Plains peoples during the second half of the nineteenth century.
